Harriet Rosenberg

About the Artist

Harriet has been a paper cutter for over 25 years.  She creatively links papercutting to the school curriculum and other aspects of learning.

Papercutting, originating in China in the 2nd century A.D. with the invention of paper, is an international art form.  It was considered a "folk art" until the 20th century, when it was also produced as a "fine art".

Visual Arts/Paper-Cutting
Description:
Harriet teaches papercutting as an art form, as history and multiculturalism, as a means of developing creativity, critical thinking, and problem solving, and for understanding the connections between art and other disciplines.  Students learn to cut the four basic forms and develop them into a wide variety of projects relating to their curriculum and the standards for their grade level.  Projects may be as varied as creative writing illustrations, "murals" and performance pieces.  Harriet, who earned a B.A. in Music/English and a M.Ed. in Human Development (plus has post-graduate Theatre/Visual Arts experience), has been cutting paper for over 25 years.
